Pondering the season
As I was pondering the fact that fall is coming. I always find myself in a state of resistance. Because I know that my favorite time of year is coming to an end. I will have to wait many months before I can enjoy the long days of summer. The beauty of all the flowers in my front yard. The freedom that the summertime brings. The cool breezes from the open window on a warm summer day. The smell of fresh cut grass. The smell of the rain.
Then I remember that if I stay in this resistance I will miss the beauty this season has to bring. The golden leaves on the trees. The abundance of the harvest from all of the crops. The comfort food that is made from it. The warm drinks. The mild temperatures. Enjoying watching many people close to me enjoy the season because it is their favorite.
Then this made me ponder how this relates to the year that we have been having. There has been so much that has happened this year that has brought up a lot of fear, shock, stress, overwhelm, confusion, anger, isolation, loneliness just to name a few emotions that have come up for us this year. Which can put us in a state of resistance, because we don’t want to feel this way. We don’t want what is happening to be happening. Just like the change of the season we can’t stop it from happening, but we can stop resisting it so much and find the good that is around us and in our own lives. To let the change of the season remind me that in times of change there are endings, but there are also new beginnings. To let go, stop resisting, and allow the beauty to come through.
